Free snorkeling and craft workshops during the holidays

The Guam Environmental Education Committee is hosting various educational events this holiday season.

The EEC Ready, Ready, Set, Snorkel event is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Family Beach in Piti past the Port Authority of Guam. The event is free and registration is not necessary. The event is open to all ages and abilities and includes a safety briefing, instruction on using snorkeling gear and gear to borrow if needed. Dive masters and biologists will be on hand to talk about water safety and the marine environment.

The EEC will also offer free Ecofriendly Christmas Craft workshops from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday Dec. 19 and Tuesday, Dec. 20. The workshops will be at Guam EPA’s Main Conference room in Tiyan. No registration is required. Students of all ages and ability will have a chance to make multiple types of Christmas decorations. Families interested in attending the workshop are encouraged to bring any recycled materials from their home they would like to make into decorations including paper towel tubes, aluminum cans, and old fabric.

The Environmental Education Committee (EEC) includes government, nonprofit and educational organizations that are interested in promoting environmental education on the island of Guam. Members include Guam EPA, the Guam Department of Agriculture, NOAA, Sea Grant Guahan, University of Guam, Guam Community College, Bureau of Statistics and Plans Guam Coastal Management Program, Marine Mania, Sharks MADE, iRecycle, and others.
