Guam EPA declares ‘All Clear’ for Barrigada

07 August 2014

The Guam Environmental Protection Agency today issued the ‘All Clear’ for Barrigada, relative to the Boil Water Notice (BWN) that had been in effect for the district since last week.

Today’s announcement follows two consecutive days’ of clean readings from samples that were collected along Chalan Eskuelan San Vicente Street.

“I am relieved to have gotten through this situation in Barrigada as quickly as we did,” Guam EPA Administrator Eric M. Palacios said. “But we’ve still got work to do to help the Guam Community College get in the clear.”

At present, the BWN for GCC remains in effect. Guam EPA technical personnel are actively working with officials from the college and the Guam Waterworks Authority (GWA) to mitigate the contamination.

“I am glad to report that GCC officials are aggressively handling the situation,” Palacios added. “Our team will just as aggressively assist them through the decontamination process.”

Guam EPA will continue to work with GWA as well as other operators of public waters supply systems to monitor and protect the island’s drinking water supply.
