Guam EPA featured on national solid waste website; Agency planning Sustainable Materials Management Conference for March 2014
Aug. 15, 2013 – The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) and the 27th Pacific Islands Environment Conference (PIEC) were recently featured on the homepage of the Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials (ASTSWMO).
“This type of national recognition is very timely as Guam EPA begins the planning process for a region-wide materials management conference in March of 2014. The conference will include officials from ASTSWMO, the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and other experts from around the region and nation,” said Guam EPA Administrator Eric M. Palacios. “Guam is being recognized on a larger level for advancements in solid waste, education and other work in the Pacific.”
Guam EPA began planning for the March 2014 sustainable materials management conference by conducting surveys of certification workshops and topics of interest of the solid waste professionals in the Micronesian region.
The Sustainable Materials Management Conference will be coordinated in partnership with ASTSWMO and SWANA. Attendees will also have the opportunity to test and receive SWANA Certification during the conference activities.
The feature on the ASTSWMO website notes Guam EPA hosted Mark de Bie, Materials Management Subcommittee Chair for ASTSWMO at the PIEC in June. De Bie spoke in multiple sessions about solid waste management, landfill issues and recycling. Visit ASTSWMO’s website to view its feature of Guam EPA and the PIEC, and to learn more about the organization.
