The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) in partnership with the Bureau of Statistics and Plans Guam Coastal Management Program (GCMP) today opened registration to the third annual free environmental summer camp.
Three sessions of Kika Clearwater Summer Camp will be open to students entering 3rd grade up to 7th grade. The camp is free. Space is limited and spots will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis. Students can only enroll in one of the three sessions.
Camp sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the following weeks:
– Session 1: Tuesday, July 22 to Friday, July 25
– Session 2: Monday, July 28 to Thursday, July 31
– Session 3: Monday, Aug. 4 to Thursday, Aug. 7
“Educating students is one of the best ways to protect our environment. Campers who have first-hand experiences with nature will understand the beauty of Guam and become partners in preserving that beauty,” said Guam EPA Administrator Eric M. Palacios. “We are pleased to work with GCMP through the Guam Nature Alliance. This type of partnership is critical in protecting our natural resources”
Kika Clearwater’s Summer Camp is a ridge-to-reef experience where students will learn about non-point sources of pollution, watersheds, the diverse ecosystems found on Guam, including our coral reef ecosystems through a variety of hikes and snorkel opportunities. Kika camp engages students and exposes them to Guam’s environment.
Registration Packets are available at the Guam Coastal Management Program (GCMP) office which is located at 777 Phase Rt. 4, II Complex, Suite 5A in Sinajana next door to the Civil Service Commission. Registration Packets are also available online or by emailing Christine.Camacho@bsp.guam.gov.
The Guam Nature Alliance (GNA) is a committee of government agencies, private organizations and nonprofit entities dedicated to promoting environmental literacy and education. Guam EPA and GCMP are both members of GNA.
