Guam EPA partnering with Ordot Chalan Pago Mayor’s Office for Earth Day shoreline cleanup

April 19, 2019 – (Tiyan, Guam) – In recognition of Earth Day 2019, the Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) and the Ordot Chalan Pago Mayor’s Office is partnering up to perform a shoreline cleanup along Pago Bay on Monday, April 22, 2019. The entire agency personnel is participating in the shoreline cleanup. Normal operations and agency presence at the Guam EPA administration building, operations building and permit window will be suspended for the day, however Guam EPA Emergency Response will remain active. Normal business hours and operations for the agency will resume on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

The Guam EPA staff shoreline cleanup will focus on the surrounding area of the Francisco Perez Park, just off of Route 4. For Earth Day 2018, Guam EPA staff held a cleanup off of Route 14, along the secondary roadway near Two Lovers Point.

“The Earth Day cleanup is an agency tradition that our staff have participated in for several years,” said Guam EPA administrator Walter S. Leon Guerrero. “We are pleased to be a part of the numerous cleanup activities that other civic groups, private corporations and government agencies are holding throughout Earth Month 2019, and throughout the year,” Leon Guerrero further stated.

Leon Guerrero acknowledged other community organizations such as the KUAM CareForce – who will host a cleanup from Paseo to East Agaña on April 27, 2019, and “Tides to Trash,” who will host their cleanup on April 20, 2019 at Tanguisson Beach.

Leon Guerrero expressed his appreciation for elected officials like Speaker Tina Muña Barnes and Senator Amanda Shelton for their participation in a recent “#trashtag” trash collection challenge, and Inarajan Mayor Doris Lujan for her upcoming village cleanup with her village’s sister squadron.
